We don't have an exact date for this - must be around the middle of the 17th century. Quite apart from the wonderfully evocative drawing (you can nearly hear the music!), what is particularly interesting in this context is the thumb-on-hair bow-hold, by all accounts not an Italian characteristic! It is also fairly clear, in spite of the 'sketchy' representation of the bow, that the stick is fairly thick - once again pointing to a relatively light indigenous wood.
